Void house is a contemporary extension to an existing heritage brick Victorian home.

Too often in residential construction space has been defined only by square meters without regard to the vertical volume or the experience of space.

In Void house, a negative, vertical, double storey void has been inserted into the existing floor plan as the negative inverse space of a golden elm tree located immediately adjacent in the rear yard.

The void is now immersed in golden and green dappled light, filling the living spaces of the home with nature.

Deciduous foliage provides the house with the perfect active solar device providing a cooling shady canopy during summer and allowing the suns ray to warm the concrete slab for heating during winter.
